Unzip along the base
The zip runs along the bottom edge and stays out of sight when the cover is on.

Lift the cover off
The mattress stays where it is. Only the outer cover is washed.

Wash and refit
Machine wash at 30°C, tumble dry on low heat, and zip the fresh cover on.
Watch it done
Watch it come off.
Unzip the cover, lift it away and fit the fresh one. The mattress stays in the bed and the bed stays where it is.

Why it matters
The part that takes the wear is the part that comes off.
A bed that cannot be washed gets replaced. A bed whose cover comes off gets refreshed, which is cheaper for you and a great deal less waste.
Keeping a spare is the trick: put the second cover on while the first is in the machine and their bed is never out of use.
